Crochet and linen designer promotes Mayan craftsmanship with Yucatecan hands

Fashion designer Emmi Páez, from Miami, Florida, has found in the artisan hands of Yucatecan women the essence to give a unique touch to her brand.

Her project not only seeks to enrich her collections with the art of crochet, but also to empower women from Mayan communities in Yucatan, integrating them into an artistic movement with international impact.

Páez stressed that the main purpose of their collaboration is to provide a platform for these artisans to share their talent with an audience that values traditional art fused with modern trends.

“It is important that the art of crochet is not only preserved, but also appreciated in global contexts, where manual work is greatly appreciated”, said the designer.

So far, her initiative has benefited more than 10 families, offering new techniques and pieces that combine tradition and modernity.

In her workshop, Emmi has not only perfected her skills, but has opened up opportunities for the resulting pieces to be presented in markets in America and Europe.

“This effort represents a synergy between the artisanal and the contemporary; the intention is to showcase the work the work of Yucatecan women on an international stage, while strengthening the income and self-esteem of the Mayan women involved”, she concluded.
